DJI has launched a foldable drone Mavic Mini that is the smallest drone yet and weighs 249 grams. Since it falls in the sub-250 gram category, the DJI Mavic Mini is not only portable but also does not need to be registered. As per India’s drone policy, nano RPAs that weigh less than 250 grams are exempted from registration, NPNT compliance, and import license as well.

Users can fly the DJI Mavic Mini up to 50 feet and in enclosed premises in the country without any worrying about registration. It is available for $399 (around Rs 28,300) and starts shipping from November 1, 2019, to those who had pre-ordered the drone.
The Mavic Mini can shoot 1080p videos at 60 frames per second and 2.7K videos at 30 frames per second. It records MP4 videos at maximum video bitrate of 40Mbps. The battery capacity of the drone is 2,600mAh and supports 18W fast charging. The Mavic Mini pairs with Android or iOS devices with the help of DJI Fly app.

In S-mode, the portable drone has a maximum speed of 13-metre second whereas it travels at 8 metres per second speed and 4 metres per second speed in P- and C-mode respectively near sea-level with no wind interference. The maximum flight time of the DJI Mavic Mini is 30 minutes when it is flying at 14kmph (3.88 metres per second) in windless conditions.
The drone has 3-axis (tilt, roll, pan) stabilisation and 3000 metres of maximum service ceiling above sea level. It has a maximum wind speed resistance of 8 metres per second with a maximum tilt angle of 30 degrees in S-mode and 20 degrees in P- and C-mode. The Mavic Mini operates in a temperature range of zero to 40-degree centigrade and supports both GPS and GLONASS for positioning.
The Mavic Mini can ascent at a maximum speed of 4 metres per second and descent at a maximum speed of 3 metres per second in S-mode. In P-mode, the Mavic Mini has an ascent speed of 2 metres per second and a descent speed of 1.8 metres per second, whereas it can ascent and descent at 1.5 metres per second and 1 metre per second respectively in C-mode.
